I have been weekly writing a newsletter by email called Margaret’s Musings. However, it deals more with psychological principles, family systems material, attitudes for daily life and I purposely avoid material about marriage. However, now that my book, The Marriage Ark is being released, I need a forum to encourage people in serious relationship, engaged, and married. I am 32 years into being a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and 32 years into my membership in the American Association for Marital and Family Therapist as a clinical fellow. So as you can see, I have a lot invested in the relationship of marriage.
Here in this blog, I hope to cover the big picture which includes the attitudes of heart it will take to build and maintain a lifelong relationship. And I will get into the nitty gritty as well. I refer to that as the nuts and bolts of relationship, the how to actually do it. This week my husband and I celebrated our 49th year of marriage, preceded by 4 years of dating. I draw from a lot of education in this field and I draw from my own daily life, the trying, failing, and succeeding in my ordinary homespun marriage.
More than anything I want to be an encourager, a teacher, a cheerleader on the sidelines, shouting, “You can do this! It is worth it!” I deeply believe the Biblical passage, Ecclesiastes 4:9-12: “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor; If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.” And going on to verse 12: “A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart…” I hope you will journey with me through some of the thoughts and inspirations and even warnings I might give, in hopes that your Marriage Ark can be built with God’s guidance, with careful intention, and loving hands in order to reap a vessel where all can reside safely within.
